The Best Is Next
Every one of us faces seasons when we feel as though we have no more. You have nothing more to give, no more creativity, no more options. You're running out of opportunities, doors are closing. You're running out of resources, having a hard time making ends meet. Maybe you're running out of strength, and you're weary and can't take it anymore. There's nothing wrong with saying, "God, I have no more."
In John 2, when Jesus was at a wedding celebration in Galilee, they ran out of wine. It's significant that Jesus performed His first miracle here, turning water into wine. What's interesting is that He could have given them the same wine they had been enjoying. That would have been a great miracle. We would be telling the story of how God can give you more when you run out. That's good, but God is so loving, so merciful, that when the wedding host tasted the water that was now wine, he said, "You have saved the best till now." It's saying that He doesn't bring you out the same. He gives you the best wine. The best is simply something that you've never seen. Favor that you've never seen. Health that you&'ve never seen. The best is in front of you--opportunities, finances, influence. After you see that best, God will give you something better, a new best. That's what it means when it says God is taking you from glory to glory. But in between those glories, there will be these "running out of wine" times.
Jesus says, "You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule" (Matthew 5:3). That seems odd. We're blessed when we're at the end. Why would He say, "You're blessed when the contract doesn't go through. You're blessed when that person walks away"? It's because when you're at the end, when you've run out of options, that's when God shows up and gives you the best wine. That's when He does more than you can imagine.
That's why you shouldn't fight every closed door, or when people do you wrong, or when the business doesn't make it, or seasons when you're running out. These things have to happen for you to see the best wine, for you to see greater favor and greater influence. As much as we don't like the bad breaks, the betrayals, and the disappointments, they're all a part of God's plan. God is ordering your steps and setting you up for the best wine. God saves the best for next. Get ready. I believe and declare you're about to come into some bests--best opportunities, best relationships, best health, best resources.
