In Numbers 21, the Israelites were desperate for water in the barren wilderness when they came upon an old dry well. Here the people sang, "Spring up, O well!" even though they couldn't see, taste, feel, or smell water. There was no reason, logically speaking, to believe water would flow out of the well. That's why the Scripture tells us to walk by faith and not by sight. If they had gone by what they saw rather than had faith in the might and power of God, they would have missed this abundance.
In difficult times, you're either going to be singing about the problem or singing about how big your God is. He is not limited by the laws of nature. He's limited by what we believe. You have to make declarations of faith when you're in the drought and break forth into song. Start singing to the promise, "Spring up healing, spring up freedom, spring up abundance, spring up victory," and God will show out in your life in ways you've never seen.
What if you take a couple of minutes every morning—before you leave the house—to say what God says about you? Make this declaration of faith. “I am blessed, I am prosperous, I am redeemed, forgiven, talented, creative, disciplined, focused, confident, secure, prepared, qualified, motivated, valuable, free, determined, equipped, empowered, anointed, accepted, and approved. Not average; not mediocre. I am a child of the Most High God.”
In Genesis 12, God said to Abraham, "Here's My invitation to a land that I will show you, and I will make a great nation through you and make your name great. But you have to leave your family and comfortable home and not know where I am taking you." Before Abraham could receive the promise, he had to say yes to God, even when he didn't know what it was going to look like. Have you ever felt like that? Have you ever thought, "I don't know how this thing is going to work out. I can either stay where I am or I can say yes to God and move forward." That's what Abraham had to do, and so do we.
Abraham said yes to God's amazing promise, but years went by and no son was birthed to make a great nation. In Genesis 15, he reminded God that he and Sarah were childless and too old to have a baby. But he also kept saying yes to the promise. He'd go out of his tent in the night and look at the stars and say to God, "I can look at myself and Sarah, or I can look at You. I can consider what we're capable of in the natural, or I can recognize that You can do what You said. God, I believe Your promise." Despite the impossibilities, Abraham showed great faith with a great big yes and finally received the promise. God's delay is not His denial.
The Scripture says that when Abraham said that simple yes to God, "It was credited to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15:6). That means that Abraham was made to be in right standing with God. He could come freely to God and partake of what God had for him. That righteousness gave him access to the grace of God, which kept Abraham on track and strong. All Abraham could do was say yes to God, and in his account was the grace to bring God's promises to pass. Abraham couldn't have brought God's promises to pass in his own strength and willpower.
How are we going to keep our yes to God's promises strong? By simply coming to God even when we don't understand it, when we don't know what it looks like. We have to believe that there is grace in our account to bring forth the promises of God. Every time we go to that account and say, "Yes, God!" there is grace in our account to draw from. There is provision. That's what's going to cause you to become everything God has called you to be, because you're saying, "God, I believe Your promise. My response is, 'Yes, so be it.'"
